Opportunity description

Facebook is looking for a highly motivated, well-organized and team player Privacy Policy Manager to join the growing policy team in the Middle East and Africa, specifically in London, the UK, or in Dubai, United Arab Emirates or in Johannesburg, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal in South Africa. The position will support the Privacy and Public Policy team's work on strategic engagement and outreach with privacy and data protection policy stakeholders. The ideal applicant has a strong background in privacy and data protection, with a strong grasp on European privacy legal and policy issues such as the GDPR and understands its influence in the region. The applicant should have excellent analytical skills and be a strong writer, with experience in developing materials for internal audiences as well as regulators, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. The applicant would also have with deep knowledge of and relationships with regulators, key advocacy groups, policymakers, academics, and researchers in the region. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment and presenting to internal and external audiences. This is a great opportunity to work on novel public policy issues in an exciting environment. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Act as direct support to the EMEA Privacy Policy Engagement Lead, working closely with a global team on data protection and privacy policy issues across the EU, the Middle East and Africa.
  2. Analyze legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data protection, data security and other related technical issues.
  3. Work with cross-functional teams to develop and articulate the company's positions on key privacy and data protection issues in the form of internal briefing documents, position papers, and related documents.
  4. Assist in designing and executing high impact policy strategies and programmatic initiatives in EMEA.
  5. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Represent Facebook at regional and global meetings and conferences where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 4 years’ experience working on data protection and privacy legal and policy issues in a law firm, company, non-profit or similar organization.
  2. Excellent academic credentials, law degree highly preferred.
  3. Highly-organized and detail-oriented.
  4. Strong analytical and writing skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines.
  6. A high degree of flexibility, willingness to travel and to work on a wide variety of legal and policy questions.
  7. Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices and of Facebook products and platform.
