The American Councils for International Education offers a part time job opportunity for Assistant Resident Director for the Flagship program in Meknes, Morocco.

Job description: 

The Assistant Resident Director for the Flagship program supports the Flagship Resident Director in providing logistical support, guidance, emergency aid, and resources to students as they adapt to life and study in Meknes, Morocco. Specifically, he/she assists the Resident Director in addressing housing issues, health concerns, cultural adaptation challenges, academic problems, and other issues related to students’ overall well-being.  The assistant resident director plays a key role in helping participants arrange community service and internship opportunities and guiding them during both program components. In his/her daily conduct, the assistant resident director demonstrates respect for the host-country culture and language, as well as a strong professional commitment to American Councils program policies.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with program Resident Director, provides logistical support, guidance, and daily assistance to program participants as they adapt to life and study in Meknes;
  • Provides support and access to professional counseling to students suffering cultural adjustment issues;
  • In keeping with American Councils Title IX policies, provides support and resources to students who experience sexual harassment in Meknes;
  • Accompanies participants to medical appointments and assists them in securing medical treatment as necessary;
  • As support for the internship coordinator, engages with community service and internship organizations, assists in community service/internship placements for American students, and assists students as they carry out the two program components;
  • Monitors participant housing and conducts regular visits to students at home to verify quality of host family arrangements and/or apartment living with roommates; responds to housing issues as necessary in consultation with the Resident Director;
  • Reviews American Councils emergency protocols and training materials to provide appropriate emergency response;
  • Assist in arrangements during site visits from funders and domestic partners;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Eligibility:

  • Bachelor degree  or graduate degree in Arabic language or area studies or equivalent.
  • Superior Arabic language skills (minimum « Level 3 » in speaking on the ILR scale).
  • Advanced Moroccan dialect language skills.
  • Study, work, or extensive travel experience in Morocco.
  • Basic computer/Office Suite skills.
  • Experience overseeing and guiding groups, preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in academic and personal counseling, preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
