Opportunity description

The Walt Disney Company is looking for software engineers of all levels to join its Production Technology team, for development in multiple domains. In these roles, you will partner with artists, production and technology leadership, technical directors, cross-team software engineers, and other technologists and researchers across the Walt Disney Studios. At Walt Disney Animation Studios, there is a deep commitment to the philosophy that creativity inspires technology, and technology inspires creativity. Engineers in the company’s Production Technology department are charged with developing and implementing new tools and algorithms to solve challenging problems for all of Disney’s movies.

Required Experience Fields:

Walt Disney Company looking for engineers that have experience with:

  1. Designing & extending application core and framework.
  2. Designing data models and schemas.
  3. Architecting, integration, and optimizing compute and data structure.
  4. Building and integrating media playback and story toolsets.
  5. Rendering and simulation expertise
  6. Creating or enhancing artist-facing tools and applications.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work on the full stack of Disney’s tools, from developing the underlying algorithms through building intuitive artist-friendly interfaces.
  2. Work hand in hand with artists to make the tools needed for the complex and rich characters and environments featured in the movies.
  3. Develop on top of a highly performant, extendable in-house application framework.
  4. Develop new artist-centric interaction models using the latest hardware and technologies.

Qualification:

  1. Proficiency in C++, ideally C++11/14.
  2. Experience with scripting languages including Python.
  3. Experience building clean interfaces using modern UI development toolkits, including Qt.
  4. Extensive experience designing APIs from scratch as well as designing APIs that extend existing frameworks while maintaining established patterns and architecture.
  5. The ability to quickly produce clear, testable code.
  6. Understanding of the importance of performant solutions for user interaction.
  7. Good problem solving, troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  8. Ability to collaborate with team members across different disciplines including directly interfacing with stakeholders to understand requirements.
  9. Exemplary communication, teamwork skills, balancing the timeliness of solutions with their sustainability.
  10. Ability to prioritize competing demands based on business value.
  11. Understanding of computer graphics foundational concepts, and algorithms
  12. Knowledge of animation, graphics techniques, and algorithms.
  13. Strong mathematical fundamentals, including linear algebra and numerical methods.
  14. Strong understanding of the coding process, standards, continuous integration, and testing principles.
  15. Experience with a game engine such as Unreal, Unity, Lumberyard.
  16. Experience in technical leadership.
