Jobs in Australia: Software Development Engineering Manager at Expedia Group

Expedia Group is looking for a Software Development Engineering Manager to join the team and work in Australia for 2021. 

Responsibilities:

1. You will act as a spokesperson for software design best practices - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns.
2. You will identify areas of improvements within the code and suggests solutions.
3. You will advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability).
4. You will anticipate and recognize bottlenecks in work processes between teams and makes suggestions for ongoing improvement.
5. You will determine different phase milestones and priorities in collaboration with product management peers.
6. You will partner with the business to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line.
7. You will gain insight into how customers utilize technology for their competitive advantage and apply this knowledge to suggest areas for improvement.
8. You will bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve lagging project work.
9. You will review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles.
10. You will guide employees and managers in the development of team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing individual and team performance.
11. You will encourage and support education and professional development of employees and managers.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree or Masters in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.
2. An established people leader who leads a team of engineers using an agile, iterative development framework like Scrum.
3. You have performance managed at least 3 individual contributors.
4. You have strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for multiple technical domains; justifying technology choices to technical and non-technical observers.
5. You have acted as a mentor to both individual contributors and managers on your own teams.
6. You have defined team goals and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together – working as an enabler for multiple teams to then achieve these goals.
7. You have delivered solutions to business problems spanning teams.
8. Collaborating closely with the product team you have delivered and influenced a product roadmap.
9. You have direct experience with web platform technologies including Java, Spring, MVC, REST web services, Javascript frameworks, HTML and CSS.
10. You have experience managing applications deployed to a cloud service provider like AWS or Azure.
