Jobs in Egypt: Economist at Food and Agriculture Organization 2021

The Food and Agriculture Organization is looking for a qualified Economist specialized in Rural Development to join the team in Cairo, Egypt for 2021. 

Responsibilities:

1. Collects, reviews/cross checks and/or analyzes relevant agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related data, statistics and information to support delivery of programme projects, products, publications and services.
2. Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical documents and/or publications.
3. Participates in the development of improved tools and methodologies.
4. Updates databases and web pages.
5. Participates on multi-disciplinary project/work teams.
6. Participates in the development of training materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc.
7. Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners.

Specific Tasks:

1. Contributes to the regional programme from the perspective of rural and territorial development, social protection, rural institutions and services, youth employment, and women empowerment, and help mainstreaming these themes in agricultural and rural development policies and programmes.
2. Contributes to the identification and formulation of projects and programmes and to technical support to country offices in implementing them, including through participation in country missions.
3. Contributes to the development and implementation of regional and country-level capacity development programmes, institutional strengthening and partnerships.
4. Participates in studies and analyses, both at regional and country level, related to the above areas of work.
5. Liaises with relevant units in Headquarters and contribute to corporate programmes in the related areas of work; ensures effective communication with Sub-regional and country Offices on related activities and programme.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Advanced university degree in economics, agricultural economics or a related field political economy, rural development.
2. Three years of relevant experience in economic and quantitative analysis of food and agricultural issues, natural resources use, food demand or related areas poverty analysis, rural development.
3.  Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills:

1. Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
2. Extent and relevance of experience in collecting and analysing technical information and data.
3. Extent and relevance of knowledge and experience in conducting quantitative economic analysis.
4. Extent and relevance of experience in the preparation, editing and revision of technical/scientific documents and in organizing meetings and workshops.
5. Extent and relevance of experience  in formulating and implementing analytical and policy studies studies and development projects.
6. Extent and relevance of work experience in the Near East and North Africa Region is desirable.
7. Working knowledge of Arabic and/or French is considered a strong asset.
