ACES is offering a remote job opportunity at Edanz Group Japan in the position of Freelance Copy Editor. The candidate will join the company's quality control team and will be responsible for providing a final copy edit and/or proofread to a variety of STM documents, as well as providing feedback to freelance field-specific expert editors.
Edanz Group Japan provides scientific and language support services including manuscript development, and situational analyses, strategic publication plans, protocol design, and educational tools and solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree from an accredited, English-language institution.
- Two years of professional copy editing/proofreading experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Editing certification (e.g., BELS, SfEP).
- Copy-editing/proofreading experience for a scientific or technical publication or similar.
- Familiarity with scholarly publishing.
Required Skills:
- Excellent English grammar and language ability.
- Good writing skills and a love of language.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple priorities.
- Quick learner who can handle a wide range of tasks.
- Highly computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Flexible - comfortable with varying amounts of work.
About ACES
Since 1999, the ACES Education Fund, a nonprofit organization, and its predecessor have awarded 99 scholarships to deserving students who have a passion for editing. The Walsh scholarship honors Bill Walsh, author, blogger and longtime copy editor at the Washington Post. Walsh, who died in early 2017, was an active and creative member of the ACES Education Fund board.
