Opportunity description
International Atomic Energy Agency offers internship opportunity for 12 months in Climate Change – Modelling nuclear energy in future low-carbon energy systems. The internship is awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree, which aims to support the development of a newly initiated activity on energy system modeling and analysis. It involves the development and test of the tools FRAMES and PowerInvest and their application to studies for the Agency. You will have the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with your studies or interests and expose you to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Develop mathematical models and tools and for the analysis of the power system, including the coupling with other energy services, such as process heat, hydrogen, or desalination.
- Perform calculations and participate in Agency analysis on the role of nuclear in low-carbon energy systems.
- Document the methodology developments and contribute to drafting reports.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- University Degree in economics, physics, or engineering (mechanical, physics, electrical, chemical).
- Knowledge in energy system modelling, simulation, and analysis.
- Ability to develop in C, Python, Julia/JuMP, and other programming languages.
- Ability to use popular tools for data analysis and visualization.
- In-depth knowledge on the operations of a power system and/or familiarity with linear or mixed-integer linear programming is a plus.
- You must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
- Good written and spoken English essential.
- Fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian) an asset.

- Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
- Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
