Opportunity description

The Walt Disney Company is seeking a graduate public policy student for a summer internship. You will have an opportunity to work with talented professionals who are leaders in their field, while being exposed to cutting edge policy and legal issues, including internet policy, the environment, human rights, privacy, consumer protection and child safety. This is a great opportunity to work on issues that are likely to have a significant impact on the Company’s business, brands and consumers – as well as society more broadly – and play a role in developing effective strategies to address those issues.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Identify emerging public policy issues related to The Walt Disney Company’s mid- and long-term business plans globally, and develop internal and external policy positions, strategies and analyses to influence the external environment and advance Disney’s business priorities.
  • Proactive Analysis of Emerging Issues.
  • Work with business units and other internal partners on business strategies that impact public policy or require changes in public policy to be successful.
  • Support projects on business strategies and product plans which advance policy goals as well as emerging social, political, economic and public policy issues and trends that create business opportunities for Disney globally.
  • Government and Stakeholder Relations.
  • Identify opportunities where Disney can meaningfully advance its policy agenda and recommend concrete strategies to address issues based on positions taken; work with the public affairs team, internal counsel and business leaders to identify relationships that need to be cultivated to implement these strategies effectively.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Pursuing a graduate public policy or related degree.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Must work full-time (40 hours per week) for a minimum of 8 weeks during the summer months.
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the start of the program.
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.

It's preferred to have:

  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, flexibility, initiative and teamwork.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical skills which can be leveraged to provide succinct summaries and key takeaways.
  • Ability to successfully balance multiple tasks and effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple subject areas and balance competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated interest in global public policy.
  • Basic understanding of key global policy issues, which could range from internet policy, human rights, consumer protection, child safety, the environment.
  • Basic understanding of legal, public affairs and government relations considerations in the policy process.
  • Strong familiarity with the workings of NGOs, domestic and foreign governments, international organizations or industry groups.
