Opportunity description

The IAEA offers a one-year internship in Austria to students and those holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree within one year of applying. The purpose of the programme is to provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Review relevant reports and methodologies for assessment of NDCs.
  • Prepare and document the demonstration case for evaluation of NDCs by applying the IAEA's energy system assessment tools.
  • Support the conduct of online and in-person events in support of energy planning for sustainable energy development (hosted at the IAEA Headquarters) – trainings, workshops, fellowships.

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • University degree in Environmental Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
  • The ability to work individually and contribute to a team project.
  • Demonstrable engagement with Climate Change and/or SDGs.
  • Ability to generate new ideas to generate impact.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work in a multicultural environment with respect and sensitivity for diversity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
