Opportunity description

Disney is hiring for a Software Engineer II in the United States. The Media Processing and Distribution (MPD) Core Media team develops the video encoding, packaging, and formatting systems that power Disney's video streaming platforms (Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu).

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Designing, documenting, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining complex software systems.
  • Collaborating with engineering and project managers to define and report on individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Applying Agile methodology and practices, including participating in regular work meetings and preparing a to-do list.
  • Contributing to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and open communication across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Providing regular, on-call support to operations teams 24/7 when needed.
  • Debugging complex issues involving workflows across multiple systems.
  • Contributing to the core software project needs of the team by applying best practices and standard software guidelines.
  • Following established protocols for installation, maintenance, and subsequent documentation.
  • Collaborating with other engineers to deliver new features.
  • Participating in code reviews to gain hands-on knowledge of the underlying software systems.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of developing complex software solutions.
  • Full-stack programming experience in one or more of Java/J2EE, Javascript and/or VueJs.
  • Experience developing and deploying applications on AWS (S3, EC2, Lambdas, SNS/SQS Messaging, API Gateway) or similar cloud environment.
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools such as Github, Jenkins 2, Ansible, Kubernetes, Rancher, Docker.
  • Experience working with and managing relational databases such as SQL.
  • Working knowledge of collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Preferred:

  • Experience with audio or video encoding and streaming technologies, including video encoding/compression, HLS packets, and associated metadata streams.
  • Experience in designing and developing enterprise-facing user interfaces.

The salary range for this position in New York is between $118,000.00 and $158,200.00 per year and in Santa Monica between $112,600.00 and $151,000.00 per year. The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may also vary based on the candidate’s geographic location, knowledge, skills, and experience related to the job among other factors. Long-term bonuses and/or incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
