Opportunity description

Ashoka is offering a job opportunity as a Project Assistant to join the WorldWISE Storytelling project in Cairo, Egypt, which is one of the many projects housed under Ashoka's Women’s Initiative for Social Entrepreneurship (WISE). WISE is a global initiative which, through different programing such as the storytelling project, will elevate the number, knowledge, and power of female social entrepreneurs.

Details about the job:

  • Dates: 12 months (possibility of extension).
  • Type of Hire: full-time 40 hours a week (local contract).
  • Office hours: 9 am to 5 pm (unless assigned to stay later fulfilling work requirements).
  • Working days: Sunday through Thursday, with weekends on Fridays and Saturdays. Work related obligations sometimes require weekend attendance.
  • Salary Range: starting from EGP 12,000 gross.

Duties & responsibilities

Support development of the stories for the WorldWISE project, including conducting research, conducting interviews, and developing written and multimedia materials:

  1. Work with Senior Project Officer to draft interview questions to be asked during WorldWISE individual interviews and occasionally conduct research for interviews.
  2.  Conduct interviews with fellows when necessary.
  3. Transcribe and code interviews in preparation for publication of written stories.
  4. Collect documentation and other information for interviewees from the Ashoka network.
  5. Coordinate with WISE Officer to develop publishing schedule for online articles, copy edit and fact check all publications before posting.
  6. Edit Zoom clips to be turned into material that can be added to stories.
  7. Update the WISE Website with new stories, contribute to communications campaign to spark engagement with the audience.

Support communications for the project including outreach to fellows and other Ashoka offices:

  1. Expand the existing database of potential interviewees for WorldWISE project and continue mapping additional women social entrepreneurs for interviews.
  2. Maintain up-to-date and organized data on outreach and interviews.
  3. Assist with scheduling interviews with fellows from across the world on Zoom.
  4. Conduct outreach with Ashoka Offices around the world for WISE-related inquiries.
  5. Create social media calendar and social media engagement.
  6. Coordinate all posts and design needs.

Eligibility criteria

  1. B.A. in a relevant field, preferably Social Sciences, Journalism, Business, Economics, Political Science, or Gender Studies.
  2. At least two years collectively of full-time work (including internship experience) in communications, political science, journalism, business, or a related position.
  3. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
  4. Must demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population and be able to work with persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds across all areas of the world.
  5. Must be creative and resourceful.
  6. Must demonstrate her/his commitment to social change.
  7. Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to manage multiple highpriority tasks with efficiency at once.
  8. Must maintain a cooperative working relationship and interact with others in a helpful, courteous, and friendly manner.

Skills:

  1. Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  2. Strong design and multimedia skills.
  3. Experience transcribing, interviewing, and researching.
  4. Background in gender studies or multicultural studies is a plus.
  5. Strong project management skills.
