Ashoka is offering a full-time job opportunity as a Senior Project Officer to lead the WorldWISE Storytelling Project in Cairo, Egypt. The project is housed under Ashoka's Women’s Initiative for Social Entrepreneurship (WISE), which is a global initiative which, through different programing such as the storytelling project, will elevate the number, knowledge, and power of female social entrepreneurs. The Senior Project Officer will build best practices for the research, interviewing, documenting and writing of women social entrepreneurs’ (WSE) stories. They will also manage all content and stories published on the WorldWISE Storytelling Website and create written, audio, and even visual stories about the impact that women are having around the world.
Details about the job:
- Office hours: 9 am to 5 pm (unless assigned to stay later fulfilling work requirements).
- Working days: Sunday through Thursday, with weekends on Fridays and Saturdays. Workrelated obligations sometimes require weekend attendance.
- Salary Range: Starting from 35,125 EGP gross.
- 2 Years (possibility of extension).
Duties & responsibilities
Conduct Interviews and Write Stories:
- Continue to conduct interviews with fellows from across regions (over Zoom) with a focus on women innovators in the Arab world to reach 114 women total by the end of the contract date.
- Write stories to be published on the website on a regular publishing schedule. Stories will be around 1,500 words and will include photos supplied by the woman social entrepreneurs or taken by the senior project officer.
- Host bi-weekly reviews sessions with the Ashoka Arab World Team to get the team’s feedback and confirmation on stories before they are published.
- Select a certain number of interviews to be supplemented with brief video interviews for WorldWISE multimedia element.
- Coordinate filming of video interviews with women social entrepreneurs.
- Conduct necessary site visits with interviewees when possible.
- Determine format for presentation of stories in WorldWISE book (narratives, brief spotlights, transcribed interviews/Q&As).
- Draft story narratives for WorldWISE book and podcast episodes.
Create Research, Writing, and Editing Best Practices and Processes for WorldWISE Storytelling Project:
- Build standardize procedures to optimize efficiency including: Writing Style Guide, Interview Best Practices, Research Briefs, Transcription Guide, Media Consent Tracking.
- Continue to build database for information collection from transcriptions to highlight the ways women social entrepreneurs are uniquely leading impact and create data visualizations and infographics for the website.
- Lead strategic planning to boost engagement and involvement in WorldWISE Storytelling Project.
- Hire and manage team of volunteers and assistant to ensure administrative work is completed.
- Lead research and data collection efforts relevant to creating reports in the project.
- Create outreach schedules for Ashoka Offices and fellows, create transcription, writing, editing and publication schedule, organize information tracking on communication
Manage all content and communications for the WorldWISE Storytelling Initiative Website:
- Create and plan events to boost engagement and bolster connections and opportunities for co-creation through the online community (podcast launch, webinars, networking sessions, etc.).
- Oversee communications with Ashoka offices around the world to keep them up-todate on website and increase engagement/impact of the online community.
- Engage potential media partners.
- Manage regular production of content for the platform; populate platform with data, event updates, stories/features.
- Manage all technical aspects of the website including the backend and ensuring that the site has up-to-date software and is functioning properly. The senior project officer will attend training on how to handle the backend of the site and how to navigate it.
- Manage all communication between Ashoka and the development company/hosts of the site to ensure the site is GDPR compliant.
- Direct strategy for growth of engagement of readers and advertise for women social entrepreneurs and team members in Ashoka network.
- Regularly track growth and engagement metrics of community to continuously improve strategies.
- Engage potential partners either as funders or strategic partners who can support with the production of content or capacity-building opportunities.
Performance management:
- Together with her/his supervisor, the senior project officer will develop a performance agreement at the beginning of her/his term. This agreement will include goals, measures and expected results and will be the baseline for the performance review to take place at the midpoint and end of the employment period.
- Together with her/his supervisor, the staff member will develop a plan of action for the term of employment. This plan will be created at the beginning of the period of employment and updated monthly basis.
- The staff member will send a monthly report with all activities executed during the month; to be sent to the Executive Assistant to the Regional Director, HR & Operations Manager, and Regional Director at the end of each month.
Eligibility criteria
- Essential that the candidate has a B.A. in a relevant field, preferably Social Sciences, Journalism, Business, Economics, Political Science, or Gender Studies, but a Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Must have 10 years of experience in a writing, communication, project management, or related field.
- Must have a previous experience in women empowerment.
- Must understand Ashoka’s vision and work.
- Must demonstrate her/his commitment to social change.
- Must be detail-oriented, well-organized and able to manage multiple high-priority tasks with efficiency at once.
- Must maintain cooperative working relationships and interact with others in a helpful, courteous and friendly manner.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population and be able to work with persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds across all areas of the world.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is a must, Arabic is preferred.
