Opportunity description

The United Nations is offering a job opportunity as an Inclusive Education Advisor to join the team in Amman, Jordan. 

Duties & responsibilities

  1. Provides substantive support to the development and implementation of Agency-wide policies, strategies and procedures related to Inclusive Education and any relevant technical instructions, ensuring alignment with the Agency’s Medium-Term Strategy.
  2. Provides technical support to Field Education Staff including to the Strategic Support Units, in the area of Inclusive Education in general and with particular reference to health and disability; works to integrate Education in Emergencies (EiE), protection and gender standards into the Inclusive Education Unit’s work; supports the analysis and interpretation of performance data for the IE Unit.
  3. Identifies areas for, and supports the management of research, as required, for the improvement and development of the IE programmes; supports the implementation of the periodic Classroom Observation Study; disseminates good practices and lessons learned Agency-wide regarding inclusive education classroom practices, teaching strategies, methods, and techniques.
  4. Supports the development of professional development material and monitors the implementation of capacity development on IE, including working to enhance healthy, safe, and stimulating schools to improve the professional and technical skills and competencies of different levels of education staff in coordination with other Units in the Division.
  5. In coordination with other Units, prepares IE enrichment materials including supplementing prescribed textbooks in order to meet the diverse needs of students; supports the implementation of the Agency-wide school-based system for identifying and responding to the diverse needs of students, including Special Education Needs (SEN).

Eligibility criteria

  1. An Advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in education or a relevant area (preferably health education and/or disability).
  2. At least seven years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in Inclusive Education Programme and /or in educational administration.
  3. At least 3 years experience at a senior level.
  4. Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
