European Food Information Council EUFIC is offering Science communication: collaborative project internship. Due to the current COVID-19 circumstances, all interns will most likely work remotely. We will reassess this according to the advice from the Belgian government.
Duties & responsibilities
We appreciate and encourage interns to be proactive and as much as possible own their own
activities/projects. The chosen candidate will be actively involved in the development, review, and
promotion of different types of science-based content – textual and audio-visual – covering a wide
range of food & health related topics, as well as the organisation of events. Tasks include:
- Drafting and fact-checking social media content and monitoring social media performance
- Publishing website and newsletter content
- Organisation and promotion of events (conferences, webinars, workshops)
- Supporting the partners in the development and roll-out of communication campaigns
- Reporting on milestones reached as well as progress towards key impact indicators
- Preparing infographics, videos and other audio-visuals together with a graphic designer
Upcoming internships will be focused on the following thematic areas:
- Microbiomes in the food system
- The human microbiome: research system
- The European food safety system of the future
- Fruit and vegetable processing in short food supply chain
- Algae to develop protein-rich foods
- Some internships may also support consumer research activities (also in the above thematic areas)
Eligibility criteria
- currently enrolled in an MSc programme towards a scientific degree focused on food safety,
- food science, nutrition, or a related area, with the option to pursue a placement during their
- studies.
- strong and proven English writing skills, another European language is an advantage.
- available for at least 6 months, but preferably longer (up to 12 months)
- an excellent communicator, with ability to translate scientific information into easy-to-understand language.
- interested in and a passion for food & health communication.
- can search for information, digest it, and summarise succinctly.
- proactive and well organised, capable of handling tasks alone
- good interpersonal skills
- eye for detail
- experienced with content management systems and search-engine optimization.
- working knowledge of standard software packages (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
- Outlook)
