Disney is offering internship, Summer 2022 - in Glendale, California, United States. The R&D Imagineering Intern- Creative Software Development supports the development of innovative new Disney entertainment experiences through the creative application of technology, with a focus on software prototyping.
This role will join project teams at Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development and take on responsibilities related to the development of prototypical software for the purposes of rapidly proving new concepts in themed entertainment.
Duties & responsibilities
The R&D Imagineering Intern- Creative Software Development supports the development of innovative new Disney entertainment experiences through the creative application of technology, with a focus on software prototyping.
Eligibility criteria
- Working towards a bachelor's or master's degree or having comparable industry experience in either an engineering discipline such as computer science/computer engineering or a discipline related to entertainment design or creative technology
- Additional engineering or design degree, minor, or coursework preferred (e.g. Computer Science Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Entertainment Design, Film, Theater, etc.)
- A strong interest in technology and the ability to rapidly learn new technologies, techniques, tools, software platforms and programming languages
- Experience writing code in Python and C/C++
- A strong creative sensibility in addition to technical ability. This background should be supported by a robust portfolio of work, examples of which might include: interactive applications, installation art with interactive elements, game design and implementation, theatrical installations that make use of interactive software, etc.
- Mastery of design and productivity applications (e.g. Apple Keynote, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.)
- Strong presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Time management skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks and shifting priorities amidst a dynamic and constantly changing environment of innovation
- Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work closely with other members of a team
- Experience with one or more creative media applications such as Sketchup, Maya, After Effects, etc.
- Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR have graduated within the past 6 months
- Must possess unrestricted work authorization
- Must provide own transportation to/from work
- Program Length: Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
- Program Location: Internships will be located in Glendale, CA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with interactive media platforms and game engines such as Unreal, Unity, Touchdesigner, and Max/MSP
- Basic familiarity with theatrical hardware and its control (lighting fixtures, automation ,etc.)
- Basic hardware prototyping skills including the design of simple circuits, experience with platforms such as the Raspberry Pi, and microcontrollers built on the Arduino platform
- Experience in video/film, sound/music, and/or live theatrical production and projected media
- Light prototypical fabrication experience such as with 3D printers, laser cutters, or CNC machines
