Special Effects & Illusion Development Internship at Walt Disney in USA

Walt Disney offers a WDI special effects & illusion development internship. You will be a part of the very early stages of ideation in the Imagineering process and take part in creative and technical brainstorms which will lead to creating quick proof of concept mockups. These mockups will be for new special effects and illusions used in the theme parks. This is a very iterative process that will require all of the skill sets listed at any given time. You will be paired with the Illusion Development lead and take their direction. You must be a self-starter and motivated to innovate and invent. Program length is from June/July 2022 through early January 2023. You must be fully available for the duration of the internship.

You will be responsible for:

• Research materials and processes.
• Refine designs.
• Produce quick mockups and iterations.
• Provide hand sketching.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions.

You must have:

• Ability to manage time while working on multiple projects.
• Basic electronics knowledge.
• 3D printing and laser cutting experience.
• Eagerness to learn new technical skillsets.

Experience with the following software:

• AutoCAD.
• Maya.
• Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects).
• Microsoft Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum 1-year related experience.

Required Education:

• Currently enrolled as a junior or higher, or graduated within the past 6 months, from an accredited college/university, earning a degree majoring in Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, Interactive Media, Theater Design, or Exhibit Design.

Additional Information:

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Provide full work availability.
• Provide own transportation to/from the work location.
• Be able to provide your own housing for the duration of the internship.
