Opportunity description
The European Cultural Academy Venice is pleased to announce the opening for application to the Contemporary Architecture short course in Italy.
The course is composed of a comprehensive analysis on Venice urban system, its embedded ecologies, and contemporary architectural challenges - concepts introduced through sites explorations, specific lectures, and design sessions.
About the Course
The course focuses on the Venice relation to nature in the construction of a project for a lagoon city. Both territorial and architectural physical materiality and metabolic systems of Venice are confronted, to foster new design interpretations and possibilities for the programming and activation of sites in the city.
Participants will explore one of the following sites:
- The island of Poveglia - an abandoned fortress island where nature, water and architecture coexist in silence and exile.
- The island of Lido, specifically on the site of the old hospital, a beautiful vacant early 20th-century project at the fringes of the urban settlement where sea and sand dunes establish a unique natural ecosystem.
- The island of Certosa, a public park and marina, place of experimentation for natural land reclamation and ideal place for both small design interventions and hands-on sessions.
- The unbuilt projects in Venice and their current status quo, envisioning a re-enactment or contemporary new proposal.
