Opportunity description

Global Canvas is offering a worldwide design competition for children under 16 in environmental and wildlife care. The theme for the 2021 competition is ‘Healing Nature- a Planet on the Edge’. All artistic techniques including painting, sculpture, textiles, collage as well as recycled materials are accepted.

Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to groups of children aged 16 and under; this could be a class, year group or entire school, an art club or group, or a group of friends or siblings.
  • This is a group competition typically led by an adult or art teacher.
  • Budding young wildlife artists between the ages of 16 and 22 are invited to enter the ‘Human Impact category’ in Wildlife Artist of the Year.

Please note that for the Global Canvas 2021 competition, if you are unable to work as a group to create your display due to Covid 19 (e.g. due to isolation/ quarantine/ school closure), we will accept individual entries.

Prizes:

  • Shortlisted artworks are displayed at London’s Natural History Museum for final judging.
  • There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as the David Shepherd Award. Other prizes include the Michael O’Mara Personal Choice Award and the guest speaker’s Personal Choice Award. Every winning school will receive a special certificate and a goody bag.

What happens if your school’s artwork is shortlisted?

  • If your school is shortlisted you will be invited to attend the exhibition and prize-giving at the Natural History Museum, London on Thursday, 25 March 2021
  • If you are unable to attend the event in London (e.g. you’re overseas or a long way from London) It will be created a display of photographs of your entry for judging at the museum.
  • Judging to select the final overall and category winners will take place between 12-1 pm, with the guest speaker’s talk and prize giving taking place between 1.30-3 pm.
  • If you are traveling from a country that requires a visa to enter the UK contest can provide you with a letter detailing the event and confirming that you are shortlisted and are therefore eligible and welcome to attend, but not an official letter of invitation as the contest is not hosting you in the UK.
