Opportunity description
Uplink, in collaboration with Deloitte, invites entrepreneurs and businesses to participate in the WorldClass Education Challenge, which aims to support 100 million individuals with access to high-quality education, skills, and opportunities by 2030.
Challenge Areas:
- Equitable access to education:
Challenge is looking for models that provide equitable access for students who are being left behind, and that demonstrate positive learning outcomes.
Learning cannot be limited to those with access to an in-person classroom and teacher. Girls, children in rural communities, and other marginalized groups have been disproportionately affected by education lockdowns.
- Investing in teachers:
Challenge is looking for models that invest in the teaching profession and teachers’ future-ready skills, so they, in turn, can better prepare students for the new economy.
- Skills for the future:
Challenge is looking for models that invest in the skills students will need in 2030 and beyond. Over the next decade, a billion global youth will enter the workforce, into jobs that do not exist today. Educators have the daunting task of bridging the gap between what is taught in the classroom and the jobs of the future.
Geographic Area:
The challenge is prioritizing investing in organizations and ideas in the following geographic areas:
- Africa.
- India.
- Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam).
- Australia.
Benefits
Selected innovators will be invited to a year-long cohort program led by Deloitte and supported by global education experts to help scale and advance their impact. This program, primarily designed for Founders, CEOs, Executive Directors, Education Leaders, School Leaders, etc., will include:
- Deloitte support:
- Up to US$1 million in professional services on a pro bono basis and financial grants to support the selected organizations.
- A dedicated relationship manager to support the organizations’ collaboration with Deloitte.
- Mentorship from Deloitte professionals.
- Promotion from the World Economic Forum and Deloitte through a variety of communications and media channels.
- Participation in selected World Economic Forum and Deloitte events, projects, and communities. Support to be introduced to organizations in the Forum and Deloitte’s networks.
Eligibility criteria
Successful submissions can be at various stages of development and scale. However, they must:
- Clearly align to one or more of the three focus areas for the challenge.
- Offer a compelling model – through a creative approach or innovative solution – that has a proven track record and demonstrated measurable results.
- Demonstrate the potential to reach large numbers of beneficiaries and scale.
- Have a scoped plan to achieve long-term financial sustainability.
- Demonstrate commitment and buy-in from the education system – for example, students, teachers, schools, or communities are committed to the approach.
- Have commitment from the organization’s leadership to scale the model with Deloitte’s support.
Timeline:
- 12 May 2021 to 9 July 2021: open call for submissions
