Environment Discover Competition through Visual Effects Such as Images and Movies from Rookies

Rookies invite young artists to participate in a competition of discovering the environment through visual effects such as images and movies. If you choose to accept this challenge, you will need to imagine an unseen distant planet and recreate it as a real-time environment render. Your world must include different types of vegetation and plant life. It must be vast and open, and most importantly it must evoke wonder, disbelief, and emotions.

Based on their performance, each entrant is awarded an official ranking and badge. Both badges and certificates are highly recommended to be displayed on the entrant's website or LinkedIn profile to add a level of professionalism and industry respect.

• To enter the Contest, you (the Artist) must be an amateur artist with less than 1 year of professional experience in the visual effects industry. In other words, you are not eligible if you have been employed and paid as a professional artist for a combined period of more than 1 year in a field that is closely related to the subject matter of the contest. Exceptions to this rule are paid internships that do not contribute to your combined period of professional experience.
• The scene must be rendered using a real-time engine (eg: UE4/Unity/Eevee).
• Your scene must be original, unique, and evoke wonder.
• Your scene must include vegetation, foliage, and a strong presence of storytelling that reflects the provided script.
• Speedtree, Megascans, and other third-party environment tools may be used in your scene.
• Ray Tracing is allowed.
• You must share regular updates of your progress to your entry page. Entries that only upload a single update will be disqualified.

Judging Criteria:

• The Process - judges want to see your process from start to finish. This contest uses the Play by Play project builder which means you can share every little update similar to a forum.
• The judges will be looking for entrants that show great technical and creative skills. The judges will also be looking for entries that share regular updates and get involved in the community.
• Judges are looking for attention to detail, execution, and (most importantly) a ‘WOW!’ factor that leaves us speechless.
• Feedback sessions will be available on the Experience Points Discord server and occasionally a judge may live stream to the server providing real-time feedback to those that request it.

Competition Timeline:

• Open for submission 15th March 2021.
• Entries close on 15th May 2021.
• Finalists Announced 26th May 2021.
• Winners Announced 29th May 2021.
