Opportunity description

The University of Hohenheim in Germany, with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under its special initiative “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” (EPOS), is offering master's scholarships in agricultural economics for outstanding students in developing countries.

The degree program aims to educate agricultural economists in the following competencies:

  • Integration of natural and social science perspectives.
  • Interdisciplinary analysis of complex systems.
  • Communication skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Teamwork.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • An above-average Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or Business Administration and Economics or a related program with an agricultural science or business/economics concentration at a university in Germany or abroad or at a university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of at least 3 years or an equivalent degree.
  • At least 6 ECTS points in microeconomics and statistics.
  • Proof of English language skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work in intercultural teams.

Eligibility Criteria (DAAD Program):

  • Works either for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country and, as such, is engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with an emphasis on development policies having a bearing on technological, economic, or social areas.
    Holds a Bachelor’s degree (normally four years) in a related subject.
  • Has completed an academic degree with far above average results (upper third) and at least two years of related professional experience after the first degree (bachelor) at the time of application.
  • His/her academic degrees should normally not be more than six years old.
  • Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered.

Benefits:

DAAD scholars will receive a monthly stipend of EUR 850 over the two-year AgEcon program period and will do a two-month intensive German language course before the program starts. It takes place in the months of August and September at a Language Center in Germany.
