The United Nations Volunteers Program is offering a volunteer opportunity in the translation from English to French with the French Institute for Research in Africa, a research institution of the French government based in Nairobi. The Institute promotes research in social sciences through long-term collaborations between French, East African and international academic and research institutions. The Institute publishes working papers written by the Master's students, Ph.D. students and young researcher in order to disseminate research results and promote the work of budding and junior researchers, as well as the visibility of the social, economic and political issues of the East African region. To increase dissemination, The Institute does the best to make available these working papers both in French and English, hence It needs for translation either from French to English or English to French; It also need, in some cases, proof-reading and rewriting.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Fully proficient in French and in English.
- previous professional experience in translation is requested.
- The translator should have a background in the translation of the language of social sciences, and knowledge of the African context is an advantage.
Main Task:
The volunteer has to translate, from French to English, a working paper of about 12,000 words; his translation will be checked out and revision might be required from him if any questions arise; both the French and English versions will be available online on the organization website, and the volunteer's name may appear as a translator if he wishes.
