Opportunity description
Population Education invites students from all over the world to participate in the 2019 competition by submitting a short video about human population growth. The video should highlight one of the following global challenges: Preserving Biodiversity, Sustainable Resource Use, Protecting Human Rights. Possible subthemes include:
- Preserving Biodiversity – Habitat destruction/fragmentation, ecosystem diversity, coral reefs, deforestation, pollinators, extinction, invasive species
- Sustainable Resource Use – Energy, fossil fuel use, single-use products, diet, overfishing, global inequities in consumption
- Protecting Human Rights – Poverty, barriers to education, women and girls, forced migration, environmental/social justice, economic security
Requirements:
- All entries must be a digital video
- Students may work together in groups or as individuals
- The length of the video should not exceed 60 seconds, not including the 10 second title screen
- All entries should begin with a 10 second full-screen “title screen” that includes the following information: Lead producer’s name, school name, school city, title of video, total running time
- All information presented in the video must be cited, giving credit to the original source
- Each video must have only one producer to serve as the main contact. Recognition and prizes will be given to the lead producer and all those listed as co-producers on the entry form
- No professional assistance is allowed. Adults may assist with production but are limited to verbal guidance only. Adults are allowed to be actors or cameramen but not content contributors
- If chosen as finalist, you must submit a signed/completed Parent Permission Form and a signed/completed Actor Release Form for each person appearing in the video
- Contents of the video must be appropriate
- All entries must be in English, and if not in English then they must include English subtitles
- Students should keep at least one copy of their video. Population Connection is not responsible for any films that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly

First Place: $500
Runner-Up: $250
- Best in State: 50 cash prizes will be awarded to the best video in each state.
- Best International by Region: 6 cash prizes will be awarded to the best international video by world region (Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, South America)
