Opportunity description

San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF) is now accepting submissions for the International Poster Competition of its 28th edition, to take place from March 11-21, 2021. SDLFF invites photographers, artists, graphic designers to submit an iconic design that captures the essence of the annual celebration of Latino film, music, and art for a chance to be the face of the festival. The 28th edition in 2021 will feature both in-person screenings (at movie theaters, drive-ins, etc.) and virtual screenings. Artwork should celebrate this 2021 hybrid edition.

Prizes:

Top Prize: $1,000.00 dollars and promotional exposure in ALL marketing festival related marketing materials (national and international press exposure, the cover of the Official SDLFF 2020 Program book, print ads, TV commercials, social media posts, ads, and web banners, etc.)

10 Finalists - 2 tickets to the 28th San Diego Latino Film Festival & limited promotional exposure.

Design Topic:

Your design must address the following prompt:

The pandemic has changed the way the festival screens films. For 26 years, SDLFF screened films at movie theaters. COVID-19 forced the festival to postpone the in-person 27th edition in 2020 and pushed them to move their offerings to a virtual platform.

The 28th edition in 2021 will feature both in-person screenings (at movie theaters, drive-ins, etc.) and virtual screenings.

Your design must reflect the new hybrid format of the festival and visually represent what this experience might be. Think about groups of people watching films from home (sitting in front of a TV, popcorn on the coffee table, etc) and what an in-person experience might be-- socially distanced patrons? Masks? The poster design should reflect the realities of the world. SDLFF encourages you to be creative in the interpretation of this prompt!

Selection Criteria:

A panel of distinguished judges (composed of artists, graphic designers, marketing professionals, and art educators) will select the winning poster according to the following criteria:

  • Unique, positive, and non-stereotypical representation of Latino Culture.
  • Clarity and originality of message.
  • Impact, memorability, and appeal to general audiences.
  • Versatility for application on various mediums (web banners, postcards, etc)
  • Design (type, color, composition, craft).

Artwork Specifications:

  • Artwork must be submitted in: JPEG, 18″ wide x 24″high, 72 DPI (RGB), max. 4 MB
  • Top 10 Finalists are required to submit artwork in vector format, 300 DPI (CMYK).
  • The design must state: 28th San Diego Latino Film Festival
  • The design must include the festival dates: March 11-21, 2021
  • Only original artwork will be accepted. Copyrighted characters, images, or clip art will not be accepted.
  • A brief description of the artwork, the artist’s name & nationality is required.
