This scholarship is founded in the honor of Professor Malcolm de Smith, a leading international figure in Asian legal studies and the founding director of the Center of Asian Law at the University of Melbourne, this opportunity serves as a reminder of his exceptional contributions to Asian legal studies. This scholarship is opened to both local and international students at Melbourne JD University, who have completed a bachelor's degree in law or received a degree in Asian studies from the Australian or Asian Higher Education Foundation. This opportunity was first opened on 1 January 2017, and the deadline for this year's scholarship is 25 October 2019. The scholarship is available to Australian, local and international students. If you are accepted at this opportunity, you will receive a one-time grant of $ 3,000. Only one grant is available to one winner in the field of law, legal studies and criminology.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:
- Be a domestic or international student.
- Have applied for and been selected into the Melbourne JD.
- Have completed an undergraduate law degree or degree majoring in Asian studies at a tertiary institution in Australia or Asia.
- Provide your CV, academic transcripts and a brief statement outlining your commitment to understanding one or more Asian societies which is very important to be considered for this scholarship.
- Have the required capacity to speak an Asian language which is desirable to be accepted at this opportunity.
- Domestic and international applicants must have submitted an application for the Melbourne JD by their respective application deadlines for the following year.
- The selection of the winner in this scholarship will be based on:
- Academic results.
- Applicant's commitment to understanding one or more Asian societies.
- Applicants who wish to be considered for this scholarship must also complete the application of the scholarship.
Prize:
If you are accepted at this opportunity you will receive a single payment with a value of $3,000.
