Opportunity description
The Sharjah Reading Children’s Festival (SCRF) presents the Sharjah Children's Book Award for the year 2021. The Sharjah Reading Children’s Festival strives to develop reading among children as well as improving the children’s book industry standards. In its current session, the SCRF will present a number of awards dedicated to children’s books, with its more sophisticated selection, judging and promotion methodology. This will help give awarded books their deserved publicity.
Eligible Categories:-
- Arabic Children’s books (from 4 to 12 years old).
- Arabic Young Adult books (from 13 to 17 years old).
- International Children’s books (from 7 to 13 years old).
Targeted Nominees:-
- Publishers- the selection of the Best Book of the Year will be made based on the records of publishers as well as pre-collected and standardized data.
- Writers- the award shall be shared by the author and illustrator of the winning book (written content/ visual content).
Conditions:-
Nominated books must be new and unique in its field.
The first edition of the nominated book must have been published in the past 2 years prior to current SCRF.
Nominated books should not be a revised edition.
Nominated writers must not have won a prize for the category applied in the past two years.
Sharjah Book Authority Management shall not return submitted copies to nominees.
Nominated book must not have won a literary award before
Translated books or those developed from other books are not accepted.
Applicants must specify to which category the books are nominated.
Sharjah Book Authority Management shall have the right to use covers of and excerpts from awarded books in all types of SCRF marketing communications without taking the approval from the publisher or writer.
The candidates have no right to contest any of the jury decisions.
The awards shall be launched prior to SCRF each year.
Winners shall be announced in a special awards ceremony.
Prize:-
The prize money of the Award is AED 20,000.

The Sharjah Reading Children’s Festival (SCRF) is more than a festival - it's an ecstatic celebration that goes beyond one age group, enriching the whole family whilst instilling a love of reading in the youngest of children. The festival returns each year under the guidance of Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the patronage of his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in the Emirate of Sharjah.
