Opportunity description

The Moth Magazine is inviting each and all interested writers to take part in The Moth Nature Writing Prize 2020. The Moth Nature Writing Prize aims to encourage and celebrate the art of nature writing. It will be awarded to an unpublished piece of prose fiction or non-fiction or poetry which best combines exceptional literary merit with an exploration of the writer’s relationship with the natural world.

The prize is open to anyone over the age of sixteen, as long as the work is original and previously unpublished. 

Prize rules: 

  1. The Prize is open to anyone (over 16).
  2. Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must never have been published, self-published, published online or broadcast. 
  3. You can enter as many pieces as you like (at a cost of €15 per entry).
  4. The name of the author must not appear on the same page as the entry.
  5. Entries must be in English, typed, with each entry on a new sheet. 
  6. Entries will not be returned, so make sure you keep a copy. 
  7. No corrections can be made after receipt, or fees refunded. 
  8. Please remember to read the
    rules of the competition before you enter

Prizes:

  • A prize of €1,000 plus a week at The Moth Retreat in rural Ireland.
  • Prizewinner will be notified in writing by 31 October 2020.
  • The winning entry will be published in the winter 2020 issue of The Moth.

About the Moth Magazine:

The Moth Magazine was founded in June 2010, it is a quarterly printed art & literature magazine featuring poetry, short fiction, and art by established and up-and-coming writers and artists. The Moth appears in March, June, September, and December.
