As part of Young Mediterranean Voices (YMV), the British Council is looking to recruit Peer Facilitators who will be responsible to deliver debate trainings to young debaters, co-develop debate clubs, monitor and support debaters during cascade and competitions as well as possibility to adjudicate during debate competitions.
Young Mediterranean Voices (YMV) seeks to empower young women and men to enhance a culture of dialogue, to contribute to public policy and shape media discourses, and to create a shared understanding with peers across the Mediterranean on how to address issues of common concern to their communities.
Program Objectives:
To achieve this, the program focuses on four specific objectives:
- A cadre of young influences with enhanced skills for dialogue and debate will be created.
- Debating practices will be embedded in educational institutions and CSOs.
- Platforms and mechanisms for young influences will be enhanced to shape public policy, influence decision-makers and shape media narratives.
- Exposure among young debaters for shared understanding and capacity will be enhanced to develop shared responses with peers to socio-cultural challenges.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants who wish to become Peer Facilitators need to:
- Be residents of one of the 8 countries; Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia.
- Be between 21 and 30 years old.
- Be fluent in both Arabic and English languages.
- Have the ability to commit through the program’s life cycle 6 - 8 months.
- Have at least 1-year experience in delivering trainings to young people.
- Active in youth programs including volunteering.
- Be active debaters or have a previous debate experience.
- Have the ability to provide technical support to the young debaters when required.
- Be to travel (internally) when needed.
Selection Procedure:
The selection will be based on three main points:
- Knowledge and experience 40%.
- The motivation to take part in this program through a Motivation letter attached to the application form.
- Knowledge of debate; you are asked to submit a 2 to 3 min video in the language of your preference (English or Arabic) explaining, in brief, the debate format assuming you are addressing young debaters.
