Ayn Rand has announced the opening of the 2019 creative essay writing Competition for students of all ages and countries. This competition was held for students to write an essay on Ayn Rand's novels for more than thirty years. This year competition will feature 3 stories: Anthem / Fountainhead / Atlas Shrugged.
Stories:
- Anthem story: Will be divided into two groups:
- Group 1: Eligible for 8th, 9th and 10th Grade.
- Group 2: Eligible for 11th and 12th Grade.
- Fountainhead story: Eligible for 11th and 12th Grade.
- Atlas Shrugged story: Eligible for 12th Graders, College Undergraduates and Graduate Students.
Prizes:
For "Anthem" story:
- The first category: (8th, 9th, and 10th grade)
- First place $2000 (1 winner).
- Second place $250 (3 winners).
- Third place $100 (5 winners).
- Finalists $25 (50 winners).
- The second category:(11th, and 12th grade)
- First place $2000 (1 winner).
- Second place $250 (3 winners).
- Third place $100 (5 winners).
- Finalists $25 (50 winners).
For "Fountainhead" story:
- First place $10,000 (1 winner).
- Second place $2,500 (3 winners).
- Third place $500 (5 winners).
- Finalists $50 (50 winners).
For "Atlas Shrugged" story:
- First place $25,000 (1 winner).
- Second place $2,500 (3 winners).
- Third place $500 (5 winners).
- Finalists $100 (50 winners).
Judging Criteria:
Essays will be judged on whether the student is able to argue for and justify his or her view—not on whether the Institute agrees with the view the student expresses. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of the stories.
Important Requirement:
- Mailed-in essays must include a stapled cover sheet with the following information:
- Your name and address.
- Your email address (if available).
- The name and address of your school.
- Topic selected (#1, 2 or 3).
- Your current grade level.
- (optional) the name of the teacher who assigned the essay if you are completing it for classroom credit.
- Essay must be no fewer than 600 and no more than 1,200 words in length, double-spaced. Spelling errors and/or written corrections found on the essay will count against the final grade and should be omitted before submission.
Deadlines:
Deadlines for the submission of articles are as follow:
- The story of "Anthem" The deadline for the first category article is 25th April 2019. As for the second category the deadline is 18th April 2019.
- The story of "Fountainhead" The deadline for the submission of the article is 25th April 2019.
- The story of the "Atlas Shrugged" Deadline for the submission of the article is 19th September 2019.
