Opportunity description
Anthology is pleased to launch a short story competition that was established to recognize and encourage creative writing and provide a platform for publication, the Anthology Short Story Competition is open to original and previously unpublished short stories in the English language by a writer of any nationality, living anywhere in the world.
Benefits
If you win this competition, you will have one of the following prizes:
- First prize:
- €1,000
- A one-year subscription to Anthology.
- The winning story will be published in a future issue of Anthology.
- Second prize: €250
- Third prize: €150
Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- To enter, submit an original, unpublished short story, written in English with a maximum of 1,500 words.
- There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.
- Each submission will require a separate entry form and is subject to a separate entry fee.
- The writer’s name must not appear on the short story itself.
- There is no restriction on theme or style or age.
- Once selected, the winner will be contacted by email or telephone.
- Copyright remains with the author but Anthology reserves the right to be the first to publish or arrange a broadcast of the winning story.
- Submission of a written piece implies the author’s acceptance of the rules and conditions.
Please note:
- Prize money will be paid on the publication of the winning Short Story in Anthology Magazine.
- Standard fee is €18 – until 31 August 2023.

Your works will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Literary merit
- Originality
- Readability
