Grants for Social Innovation from ASME

ASME offers a grant opportunity to anyone that has a prototype of a hardware-led social innovation, where social impact entrepreneurs compete for opportunities to tap ISHOW’s global network of engineers, designers, investors, and entrepreneurs for the support needed to scale innovative prototypes to market-ready products that address one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Be creative to be one of up to 30 carefully selected innovators with engineering experts.

If you get this opportunity, you will have:

• Seed grants.
• In-kind support.
• Design services, and marketing assets.
• Receive feedback on your idea, interact with multidisciplinary experts familiar with markets, and gain access to industry best practices. 
• ASME gives:
• $784,900 in Cash Grant.
• $210,140 worth grant of Technical Design Services Advice.

Please note:

• If selected as a finalist, you would receive a travel grant to get you to the showcase.
• The travel grants are provided to two people per team.

You must follow the following criteria:

• ISHOW is open to individuals and organizations taking physical products to market that will have a positive social and environmental impact. 
• Whether you are selling your product directly to customers or employing a service model to drive accessibility, it wants to hear about your idea.
• ISHOW is focused on hardware that will have a positive social, economic, and environmental impact.
• One business can apply with two products. In order to do this, you would need to create two separate profiles with different email accounts.
• Applicants should have an existing prototype and be interested in receiving financing, technical support, and access to industry networks to assist in taking their product to market.
• Solutions should be user-centric and delivered at a competitive price point. 
• Ideating, prototyping, developing, testing, and validating hardware should take place within a structured process that encourages and ensures feedback and iteration. 
• It is expected that most entries will be “for-profit” ventures, but they can also be non-profit in nature or hybrid.
• The intellectual property of your innovation is your responsibility at all times throughout the competition.

Evaluation Process:

You will be mainly evaluated based on:

• Customer/user knowledge.
• Hardware validation.
• Manufacturing optimization.
• Implementation strategy. 
• Your proposed solutions are technologically, environmentally, culturally, and financially sustainable.
