Barakat is pleased to announce about open grant applications program for 2022. It offers grants with an upper limit of £6,000; Barakat Publication Grants, that awarded towards the costs of a major publication on the history of the art, architecture, and material culture of the Islamic world before circa 1920 CE.

Eligibility criteria

You should follow the following criteria:

  • This grant is for the costs of a major publication on:
  • a major publication on the history of the art, architecture, and material culture of the Islamic world before circa 1920 CE.
  • the archaeological investigation of the Islamic world.
  • the conservation of artifacts, buildings, and material culture produced in or for the Islamic world before circa 1920 CE.
  • The awards may no longer be paid directly to individuals, and must instead be paid either to the institution to which you belong or to the institution at or through which you are applying to conduct research or to study.
  • The Barakat Trust needs to identify an institution to which grant monies can be transferred on your behalf.  
  • Institutions to which funds can be transferred include:
  • Registered Charities
  • Registered Community Interest Companies
  • Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisations
  • Social enterprises
  • Education Institution including Universities
  • Museums, Libraries and Archives
  • Companies

  • Awards application opened on 1 January 2022.
  • Awards deadline on 31 March 2022. 
  • Notify the candidates with the Barakat Trust’s decision at the end of May 2022.

The Barakat Trust was set up to train, educate and enable new generations of professionals committed to preserving the heritage of the Islamic world, and to provide support and nurture their professional growth.
