Opportunity description

Bow Seat Ocean Foundation announces a Fellowship Program to Protect the Ocean, Waterways and Climate through the Creative Arts. This opportunity aims to connect and empower youth from around the world to use the creative arts to create change in local communities to protect the ocean, waterways and climate.

Benefits

  • This opportunity will provide mentoring, coaching, and capacity building training as well as funding of up to $2,500 USD for ten youth-led projects that address ocean and waterway issues and/or climate change in their communities through the creative arts.
  • This opportunity will provide you with access to a wide community of fellows and capacity building programs.

Eligibility criteria

  • Young people from around the world between the ages of 13 and 24 are welcome to apply for this opportunity.
  • Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Applications can be submitted by an individual or by a group of any number, but groups must select one leader to be the primary contact.
  • Projects can be new or emerging (no more than two years old).
  • Projects must use the creative arts as their primary means of effecting change.
  • Projects must relate to ocean, waterway and/or climate protection.
  • Only one application per participant is allowed, but applicants may apply to other Bow Seat programs such as the Ocean Awareness Competition.
  • Jurors’ decisions are final.
  • Applications will be evaluated based on how well the project:
    • Aligns with the Fellowship objectives.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of the issue the project addresses.
    • Project approach.
    • Realistic (including budget and timeline); and likely to lead to measurable impact.
  • Selected Fellows will be notified via email prior to being publicly announced by Bow Seat.
  • Fellows will be required to verify their eligibility by completing and signing an Affidavit of Eligibility/Waiver, where applicable.
  • Fellows under the age of 18 must have their parent/legal guardian sign and complete the Affidavit of Eligibility/Waiver, where applicable.
  • Fellows agree to work closely with FBYC mentors, Bow Seat staff and partners. This includes at least once a month calls with FBYC mentors as well as informal check-ins via the online WhatsApp chat community and emails.
  • Fellows will be required to submit quarterly reports including a mid-year and year-end report outlining project updates, successes, lessons learned and expenditures.
  • Fellows agree to participate in an online mentoring weekend on Saturday 4 January 2025, bi-monthly group meetings, and capacity building workshops.
