About Scholar Rescue Fund(IIE-SRF):

IIE launched the Scientific Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) in 2002 to operationalize its commitment to preserving the lives, voices, and ideas of scholars around the world. It is the only global program that arranges and funds fellowships for threatened and displaced scholars at higher education institutions worldwide. At the heart of IIE-SRF is the idea that each scholar it supports is a beacon of hope in the world. Academics are returning after the fellowships to make meaningful and beneficial contributions to their national scientific institutions and civil society. Since 2002, the IIE has supported 901 scholars from 60 countries in partnership with 428 host institutions in 50 countries. In 2007, IIE-SRF launched the Iraq Scholar Rescue Project that supported more than 300 of Iraq’s most senior, primarily in the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, after the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in 2011, the program has awarded fellowships to more than 90 Syrian researchers. The program was awarded the 2013 Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Academic Freedom Award.
