George Mason University offers a fellowship opportunity; Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship. It is a one-year, competitive fellowship program awarded to graduate students attending master’s, Juris doctoral, and doctoral programs in a variety of fields including economics, law, political science, and public policy. You will have the chance to join a network of Mercatus students, alumni, and scholars who are conducting and engaging with cutting-edge research in the contemporary political economy.
Benefits
If you get this fellowship, you will have a total award of up to $5,000 including:
- A stipend.
- Travel and lodging to attend colloquia hosted by the Mercatus Center.
Please note:
- Frédéric Bastiat Fellows are eligible to re-apply each year of their studies.
- They are also eligible to apply for conference and research support.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, you should be:
- One of the students that will be enrolled in an accredited graduate program during the upcoming academic year.
- Able to commit to traveling during 4 weekends for colloquia during the upcoming academic year.
- Have an interest in public policy and Mercatus’ approach to research and outreach in the ongoing debates on public policy.
- Remain enrolled as a degree-seeking graduate student throughout your participation in the Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship Program.
- Able to attend and actively participate in all aspects of the scheduled program of events including meals and organized activities.
- Fellows are encouraged to:
- Build relationships with Mercatus Center faculty.
- Build relationships with other program participants.
