Opportunity description
Ghent University invites researchers and PhD students from all over the world to PhD Scholarship Electromechanical, Systems, and Metal Engineering. You will the chance to conduct scientific research in the field of power quality, high-frequency power quality, and EMC. The research topic focuses on power conversions harmonics in the frequency range of 2 to 500 kHz, mainly caused by lighting applications, PV, storage, and EV-chargers. You publish your results. Additionally, you will support the Lemcko and CAS staff in teaching and lab sessions.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Master degrees with one of the following specializations:
- Master of Science in Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics.
- Master of Science in Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Equivalent Master in Electronics or Electrotechnics.
- Highly motivated, self-critical.
- You work with rigor and attention to detail.
- Preliminary knowledge of FPGA design (Verilog, VHDL, Vivado).
- Good knowledge of Matlab, Python, and Latex is an asset.
- A strong interest in power quality, EMC, and electronics.
- Combine being an active team player with a strong sense of autonomy and responsibility.
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.

- You will be invited to a selection interview if you are among the qualifying.
- Candidates with a doctoral degree cannot apply.
Tasks:
You will be responsible for:
- Studying the behavior of power conversion harmonics in the low voltage grid.
- Developing the concept of an active filter, both single and three-phase.
- Building a working prototype and test this under real circumstances.
- Writing scientific publications and contribute to project reporting.
- Supervising bachelor and M.Sc. students during projects and practical courses related to your own research.
