Opportunity description

UNV offers a volunteer opportunity in Tunisia for the position of gender project support associate which will last 12 months starting 03/03/2024. Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist, and with overall guidance from the Country Representative, the UN Volunteer is expected to support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of UN Women’s projects in Tunisia.

Duties & responsibilities

You will undertake the following tasks:
  • Project design, implementation, and technical support:
  • Support the timely and effective implementation of UN Women’s projects, including daily management and delivery of projects’ outputs.
  • Support the continuous monitoring relevant to project activities, issues, risks, etc, and proactively identify and implement effective solutions to overcome bottlenecks.
  • Support the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, trainings, study tours, and related activities relevant to the implementation of the project.
  • Provide substantive technical inputs for policy documents, briefs, and other strategic papers/ materials for use in the development and presentation of policy and programmatic positions.
  • Represent UN Women when requested and ensure that gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda is implemented in different coordination forums.
  • Advocacy, knowledge building, and communication:
  • Provide substantial contribution to mainstreaming gender into projects’ communication and visibility plans in the implementation phase.
  • Based on the analysis of lessons learned, evaluations, and best practices, provide analytical support to the project management.
  • Provide inputs to the development of knowledge products related to gender equality and women’s empowerment in related project areas.
  • Support in the process of identifying and synthesizing of best practices and lessons learned that are directly linked to the implementation of the program and contribute to their global dissemination.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Social Science, Political Science, International Relations, Gender Studies or related fields.
  • 1 year of experience in (ideally) or demonstrated interest in Social Science, Political Science, International Relations, Gender Studies or related fields.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship).
    Driving license B.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, M&E, and research.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in use of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc).
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in gender equality and women’s empowerment:
    • Women’s political participation.
    • Women’s economic empowerment and decent work.
    • Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility.
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning.
  • Communication and working in teams.
  • Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.

Please note: This assignment is funded by the Government of Switzerland and therefore specific criteria apply:

  • Candidates must be between 18 and 29 years of age at the time of application.
