Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers program offers a volunteer opportunity as an assistant for field observation work in Lebanon. The World Food Program in Lebanon provides humanitarian assistance to more than two million vulnerable people to obtain food and other basic needs through cash assistance and various in-kind foods. It also provides food assistance in the form of snacks and fresh food to school students and promotes resilient livelihoods and sustainable food systems. The program also provides direct assistance to the most food insecure and vulnerable people, and supports various government institutions, partners and other entities to enhance their capacity to provide social assistance. This UNV mission is part of the work of the WFP Field Office in Lebanon, Beirut and South Lebanon where the Monitoring and Evaluation team works to ensure that the intended benefit is achieved for the beneficiaries and to ensure that the right assistance is properly delivered to the right beneficiaries. You will support the field office in implementing its various program activities targeting food-insecure refugees, extremely poor Lebanese communities, school-age children, and participants in livelihood programs.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Collect, sort, and disseminate correspondence, reports, and other materials to meet required requirements.
  • Respond to incoming routine inquiries and escalate them to officials when needed.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monitoring and evaluation documentation, which includes standard reports and correspondence, to contribute to the accuracy of written information developed by the unit.
  • A set of standard business support activities, to contribute to the effective performance of monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Manage Monitoring and Evaluation Section files, field operations-related documents, and records in accordance with established systems and processes so that information is current and readily available.
  • Perform standard data entry tasks in accordance with established systems.
  • Ensuring information is organized and easily available to the work team.
  • Preparing field mission reports to document program implementation.
  • Any other related tasks that may be required or specified by your supervisor.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • Be between 27 and 80 years old.
  • Be a citizen or legal resident of the country of appointment.
  • 3 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, program monitoring and reporting with national or international non-profit organizations or other relevant programs.
  • Work experience with United Nations agencies or other international development organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  • High personal skills; Ability to work comprehensively and collaboratively with a variety of partners, including community members, faith-based and youth organizations and authorities at various levels.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multicultural team of international and national staff.
  • Good general computer knowledge, including skills working on various MS Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/Internet.
  • Familiarity with database administration; and office technology equipment.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Sound security awareness. .
  • Practical knowledge of the Arabic language.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • It's preferred to have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in the field of education, social sciences, economics, nutrition, agriculture, or any other related field.
  • Professionalism and integrity in work.
  • Teamwork skills and respect for diversity.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • You will be responsible for arranging your own accommodation as well as other living essentials.
