Opportunity description

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) offers a number of scholarships opportunities through the Taiwan Scholarship program to cater to students of varying backgrounds. The MOE Taiwan Scholarship continues to encourage outstanding students to pursue academic degrees in Taiwan and to deepen their understanding of Taiwan's academic environment, thereby enhancing exchanges and building friendships between Taiwan and their home nations. The maximum duration is five years for any combination of programs under this scholarship.

If you get this opportunity, you will have:

  • Waiver of tuition and certain fees. 
  • A monthly stipend of USD 530 for undergraduate program students.
  • A monthly stipend of USD 710 for postgraduate students.

Eligibility criteria

Each applicant shall:

  • possess a high school diploma or higher; have performed well at his/her most recent academic institution.
  • be of good moral character.
  • be neither a Taiwanese national nor an overseas Taiwanese compatriot.
  • have never enrolled in an educational institution in Taiwan for the same level of degree as the current application.
  • not be an exchange student through an academic cooperation agreement between an overseas university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan.
  • have no record of being revoked a MOE Scholarship program or other government-sponsored scholarship.
  • you cannot accept any other R.O.C. government-sponsored scholarships or subsidies concurrently with this scholarship.

Duration:

  • Undergraduate program: four years maximum.
  • Master's program: two years maximum.
  • Doctoral program: four years maximum.

Selection Process:

  • Diplomatic missions should examine the academic records and moral character of the applicants, and decide who to recommend.
  • Your grade averages should be above those of students at the same level from local schools.
  • The Diplomatic Missions’ Preliminary Evaluation, as well as their Diplomatic Missions’ Recommendation List and Waiting List, will submit to MOFA no later than April 15 every year.
  • MOFA will select recipients and announce the name list no later than June 30 every year.
  • Recipients should submit a photocopy of the admission letter to diplomatic missions no later than July 15 every year.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a cabinet level policy-making body, governed under the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China. The fundamental purpose of the ministry is to promote, expand, and conduct bilateral foreign affairs with other nations. It is in charge of interactions between the Republic of China and foreign countries as well as, it is responsible for formulating foreign policies, decisions, foreign affairs documents, and statements in regard to the ROC. It also negotiates and signs bilateral and multilateral foreign treaties and agreements.
