Opportunity description
The Illustrators Association announces its third round art competition, which revolves around the sea, with the title "Northern Illustration Prize 2023". This competition is part of the biennial Northern Illustration Festival of all that is great in the diverse world of illustration.
Benefits
- Selected entries will be shown as part of the Northern Illustration Festival, which will be held during the months of July, August and September.
- The selected artists will be notified in early July, and the audience vote award winners will be selected and notified at the end of September.
Eligibility criteria
The illustrators are free to interpret the theme of the competition in the way they choose. Here are some examples they can work on:
- How the sea binds us together.
- How the sea helped shape our history, our present, and our formation.
- Tall Ships Race.
The contestants are divided into two parts:
- Emerging illustrators in the first five years of their career.
- Painters with more than five years into their career.

The Northern Festival of Illustration was founded in 2015 by The Northern School of Art as a major showcase for the talent of illustrators across print, digital, product design and many other fields – aiming to open eyes to the rewarding and diverse careers open to young people. It is supported by Arts Council England with National Lottery funds.
