Agorize is organizing online hackathon hackUST 2022, that is an annual hackathon at HKUST since 2014 which aims at cultivating student innovation and entrepreneurship through providing a platform for both technical and non-technical students with a like-minded interest to tackle problems with creative ideas and solutions.

The hackUST is more than a platform for the students to tackle problems but a platform with a pool of talents with an entrepreneurial mindset who are potential candidates sought after by organizations that are looking for new recruits and creative solutions adaptable for their operations.

With 8 years of development, the hackUST + hardUST has become the largest hackathon held in the Greater China region [News]. It is also one of the most sought-after hackathons by university students around the world.

Benefits

Over HK$1,000,000 prize value for hackers competing in hackUST 2022, powered by Nan Fung Group, and a record-breaking successful hackathon being organised by HKUST Entrepreneurship Center! Group.

Eligibility criteria

  1. Part-time or full-time student studying in a higher education institution (Associate/Bachelor/ Master / Ph.D.) located in any city or region of the world
  2. Graduates/alumni who have graduated in 5 years
  3. Individual and team enrolments are accepted*.
  4. Team enrolment: From 2 members and up to 5 members per team
  5. Once enrolment is confirmed, applicants will have access to the Matching Platform, which allows individual applicants to form teams or join existing teams after confirmation of enrollment. Judging criteria:

  • Problem Definition (20%):
  1. Is it relevant to the challenge imposed?
  2. Is it a good solution to the initial challenge?
  3. Was the problem appropriately understood?
  4. Do they understand the multiple stakeholders who might be involved?
  • Creativity (15%):
  1. How creative is the challenge?
  2. Was it incremental of existing solutions or a radical solution?
  • Practicality/ Execution (15%):
  1. Does it work?
  2. Is it testable?
  3. Did the idea come to live?
  4. What is the UI and UX like?
  5. How good is the design?
  6. User friendliness?
  7. Any bugs?
  • Design and Polish (15%):
  1. What is the UI and UX like?
  2. How good is the design?
  3. User friendliness?
  4. Any bugs?
  • Feasibility (15%):
  1. How feasible is the project?
  2. What is the key value of the project economically, socially and environmentally?
  3. Is it sustainable?
  • Presentation (15%):
  1. How well are you selling it?
  2. Is it convincing?
  3. Are you confident in their idea and in answering question
  • Mentoring (5%):
  1. How well are you engaging in the mentoring session?
  2. Your passion and commitment in competing in hackUST?
