Arran Theater and Arts announces the MacLellan Online Poetry Competition.
Eligibility criteria
- Anyone from anywhere in the world can participate in this competition except members of the McClellan Festival team.
- You can participate with any number of poems and on any topic you wish.
- This year the competition will be held in English as well as a separate competition for the best poems in the Scottish language.
- Entries must be no more than 90 lines in length (excluding title), in English for the main competition or in Scots for the separate Scottish Poetry Competition (no translations).
- Entry poems must not have won a prize in any other competition or been published or accepted for publication in print or online by the competition deadline.
- Participants must notify the organizers immediately of any change to the poem after the entry date.
- Each poem must be on a separate sheet of paper in black Times New Roman, 12 point, A4 format (single side only).
- Poems will be judged anonymously so poems must not include the poet's name or any other identifying mark.
- No modifications or refunds of entry fees may be made once the entry work has been received.
- The entry fee is £7.00 for the first poem and £5.00 for any additional poem.
- If you cannot pay online, please send a check (in GBP) payable from a UK bank to Arran Theater and Arts Trust Ltd.
- You will still retain copyright, but Arran Theater and Arts Trust will have the right to publish the winning and shortlisted poems for a period of two years from the date the results are announced.
- The jury's decision is final.
- Your participation in this competition constitutes your acceptance of all competition rules, and failure to comply with them will result in disqualification of your participating work.
- Prize winners will be notified individually on or before 5 August 2024 and will be invited to an awards ceremony with William (Billy) Letford and Jim Mackintosh respectively on the Isle of Arran on Saturday 7 September 2024.
- Winners will be asked to submit electronic copies of winning poems.

Arran Theater and Arts was established in 1989, whose aims, in partnership with a range of other organizations on the island, are to promote the visual and literary arts on Arran, increase opportunities for arts professionals, create experiences that raise participants' skills and awareness, improve their access at a community level, and develop opportunities For young people, both in Arran and beyond through the annual MacLellan Poetry Competition and the MacLellan Arts Festival.
