Opportunity description
COMMUNICATION ARTS announces its online typography competition. The competition seeks the best use of typography as a primary visual element in designs and advertisements, as well as new typefaces and handwriting designs. Any typographic project first published or produced between September 2023 and September 2024 is eligible to enter this competition.
Benefits
- Selected entries, chosen by a jury of leading design professionals, will be distributed worldwide through the annual Communication Arts Typography magazine, in print and digital editions, and on commarts.com.
- Each winner will also receive a solid aluminum award of distinction.
- All creative entries will receive printed certificates of appreciation.
Eligibility criteria
- Any project published or produced for the first time from September 2023 to September 2024 can apply for this competition.
- Participants from all countries can apply for this competition.
- All entries must be translated into English to be eligible for this competition.
- The following categories can apply for this competition:
- Advertising: Print/Out-of-Home advertisements, posters, direct mail, etc.
- Brochures: Annual reports, brochures, catalogues, corporate literature, etc.
- Posters: Concerts, performances, exhibitions, theatres, fairs, etc.
- Temporary advertising materials: Invitations, advertisements, greeting cards, etc.
- Packaging: Posters, shopping bags, audio/video/software packaging, etc.
- Books: Covers and full books.
- Periodicals: Magazines, newspapers, newsletters, etc.
- Digital media: Websites, blogs, mobile apps, etc.
- Environment: Signage, environmental graphics, graphics for museums/trade fairs, etc.
- Identity: Logos/brands, letterhead, promotional materials, etc.
- Motion: Movie/network/show titles, TV commercials, web videos, animations, etc.
- Font Design: Commercially available fonts and fonts.
- Calligraphy/Handwriting: Hand-drawn fonts for commercial purposes.
- Miscellaneous: Clothing, products for sale, etc.
- Unpublished: Unpublished experimental/personal work.
- Student Work: Work created for school assignments.
- Entries must be submitted by midnight (Pacific Time), September 13, 2024. Entries submitted after this date will incur a $10 late fee per entry. No entries will be accepted after September 27, 2024.
- RGB digital images must be in JPG or JPEG format, no larger than 2MB.
- Videos must be in MOV, MP4, MPG, or MPEG format, no larger than 500MB.
- Entries must be in PDF format, no larger than 50MB.
- All entrants grant Communication Arts the right to reproduce the work entered in the print competition on the Communication Arts website and in materials used to promote the magazine, the competition and/or related promotions in the future. Only successful entrants will be notified within two months after the deadline date due to the large number of entries received by the competition.
