VIRCHOW Global Health Foundation announces its online global health competition.
Benefits
The Virchow Prize for Global Health honors significant contributions that advance global health through their long-term support and advocacy.
Eligibility criteria
- Various individuals, institutions and organizations from all fields working on one or more of the following aspects can apply for this opportunity:
- They have made outstanding contributions to improving global health, whether through scientific, societal, technological, political or economic innovations, and by applying concepts of social, educational, behavioral, environmental, economic, commercial and/or determinants of health policy.
- They have contributed significantly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, with particular attention to SDG 3 “Good health and well-being for all” and its intersection with the other 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
- Develop and/or implement innovations, interventions or policies to improve health with the potential for broad equity impact.
- Contribute to advancing research that leads to discovering the origins, treatment, or prevention of diseases that impact global health.
- They have contributed significantly to increased global and inclusive cooperation in addressing a comprehensive approach to global health challenges.
- Your participating work must be based on human rights, solidarity and equality and rooted in research and academic values.
- No active members of the Virchow Foundation for Global Health Board of Trustees, Executive Board, Council, or active members of the Virchow Prize Committee are eligible to apply for the Virchow Prize for Global Health.
- The following categories can apply for this competition:
- Members of associations, national governments, parliaments and current heads of sovereign states that have signed the United Nations Charter.
- General Secretaries, General Directors and Executive Directors of United Nations organizations and institutions as well as other intergovernmental organizations and associations.
- Members of scientific academies.
- Presidents and directors of universities, research institutions and foreign policy institutes.
- Laureates of the Virchow Prize for Global Health.
- Winners of the Nobel Prizes, the Lasker Prize, the Gairdner Prize, the Robert Koch Prize, the Emil von Behring Prize, the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize, and similar international awards.
- Former members of the Virchow Prize Committee.
- Former advisors to the Virchow Prize Committee.
- Self-nominations will not be considered.
- The winners of the Virchow Prize for Global Health will be announced annually on the second Monday in September.
- No more than three nominees each year – individuals, organizations or institutions – will be awarded the Virchow Prize for Global Health, awarded by the Virchow Foundation for Global Health.
- The final selection of winners will be proposed after a majority vote by the independent Virchow Prize Committee.
- Members of the Virchow Prize Committee are nominated and elected by the Virchow Foundation of the Global Health Council. The committee is chaired by the president of the institution.
