Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers Program is offering an online volunteer opportunity to support telephone services in South Sudan. In this opportunity, you will work under the direct supervision of the Telephone Billing Unit Supervisor of the Field Technology (FTS) Division and under the overall direction of the Chief IT Officer (Operations).

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Processing invoices for services provided to the mission.
  • Check invoice fees, and follow up the payment process with the Finance Department.
  • Act as a point of contact for the Field Technology department by coordinating with the Finance department, particularly with regard to telephone call charges to be recovered from staff.
  • Ensure that staff of United Nations Agencies, Funds, Programs, and personnel of the United Nations Mission comply with the instructions and procedures for the use of ICT resources in accordance with ST/SGB/2004/15.
  • Preparing business memos and faxes in response to inquiries from telephone service providers, Internet service providers, and employees.
  • Maintain a comprehensive filing system for billing, billing statements, and correspondence for all telephone services, including issuance and return vouchers for mobile SIM cards.
  • Maintain an accurate system of record keeping and archiving in the unit.
  • Track mobile phones, Thuraya phones, BGAN mobile satellite phones, and their end users.
  • Provide the FTS management with monthly reports on a regular basis.
  • Perform any other duties requested from you.
  • Enhance your knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading external and UNV-related publications and actively participating in UNV activities (e.g. in events celebrating International Volunteer Day).
  • Learn about traditional and/or local forms of volunteering in the host country.
  • Contribute writing and articles about field experiences and submit them as publications on the websites of the United Nations Volunteers.
  • Program and various newsletters and press releases.
  • Encourage or advise local groups to use the UNV Online Volunteering Service whenever technically feasible.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • You must be between 27 and 80 years old.
  • You must be a national of any country other than the country of appointment.
  • 4 years of experience in accounting, billing, budgeting, and financial management, preferably in an international organization.
  • It is preferred that you have experience in United Nations peacekeeping operations or any other field operations.
  • Experience using data to make decisions, and prepare and implement strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
  • Familiarity with C4D tools and approaches.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff.
  • Proficiency in working on various MS Office365 programs (Excel, Word, etc.), email, and the Internet.
  • Familiarity with database management.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in management, economics, finance, and logistics.
  • Driving license for vehicles with manual transmission.
