United Nations Volunteers programme is offering an online volunteer opportunity: Humanitarian Affairs Officer.
Duration:
6 months (with possibility of extension)
Duties & responsibilities
- Review and provide advice on policy issues related to safeguarding humanitarian principles and ensuring the effective delivery of principled and all-inclusive humanitarian assistance
- Organize and participate in relevant work groups, meetings, conferences, trainings, consultations with other agencies and partners at the hub level and support outreach to international and national NGOs.
- Track information required for early warning of potential humanitarian emergencies
- Prepare briefing materials and presentations providing up-to-date analysis on trends and developments on the humanitarian situation in the country or in specific governorates
- As appropriate, help organize and/or participate in coordinated assessment missions to build consensus on humanitarian needs and priorities
- Maintains a network of local contacts among key stakeholders, including local authorities and the humanitarian community
Support capacity building initiatives for national NGOs.
Perform other duties as required.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- 4 years of experience in relevant professional work experience; with any UN organization is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work with tight deadlines.
Languages:
- English, Level: Fluent, Desirable
- Arabic, Level: Mother tongue, Desirable
Required education level:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Political or Social Science, Law, International studies, Business Management, Management, Science, or other relevant area.
- A Master degree is an added advantage.
