Opportunity description

The Alexia Foundation offers a Grants to students in the field of photography from around the world who submit work that advances the Foundation's goals of promoting global peace and cultural understanding.

Benefits

Student Grant recipients receive a fellowship for tuition and fees to enroll in three courses during a semester at the Newhouse School. They also receive a $1,000 stipend and serve as the research assistant to The Alexia director, a paid position.

Eligibility criteria

Scholarships are available to students who are enrolled full-time at a college, university, or photography center or have graduated in May 2021, and are also open to masters’ students and doctoral students.

Judging Criteria & Process:

  • The Alexia grants were established to help promote world peace and cultural understanding. The strength of your written proposal will be judged equally to your photographic skills. The grants will go to those who have the potential to produce significant projects that share in The Alexia’s mission and who demonstrate the ability to accomplish their projects as shown by the images submitted.
  • Grant applications will be judged in two rounds. First, members of The Alexia prejudging panel will review submissions and forward selected entries to a panel of three judges for review before the judging weekend, when they’ll choose a grant recipient and two finalists. Recipients are chosen based on the judging panel’s assessment of the strength of both the topic and the submitted materials.
