UNV offers a volunteer opportunity in Sudan and announces its need for the efforts of one volunteer to work as a property disposal assistant for 12 months with the possibility of extension. This position is in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) to support operations in Supply Chain Management Section, and the expected date to start working is 01/07/2023.
Duties & responsibilities
You will undertake the following tasks:
- Perform overall duties under the Property Disposal Unit (PDU).
- Physically receiving from Technical Units hazardous wastes, written-off property, and other commodities for disposal, whilst safeguarding the maximum integrity existing local environment.
- Support oversight functions to ensure staff and stakeholder compliance to the disposal procedures of UN property as per Property Management guidelines.
- Organizing and storing properties into appropriate lots.
- Maintaining PDU warehouse, scrap yards, and other storage facilities well-organized in accordance with the type of scrap/property, as well as ensuring the security and safety of these storages.
- Maintaining a proper filing system and producing statistics reports as needed.
- Maintaining overall efficient and effective handling of PDU yard operations, according to existing UN and international security and environmental rules and regulations.
- Plan and implement capacity development strategies for national colleagues, through coaching, mentoring, and formal and on-the-job training.
- Performing any other related tasks as may be required by the Chief Centralized Warehouse or the designated Supervisor.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in First level degree preferably in Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a relevant field.
- Fluent in English.
- Be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
- Be aged 27 - 80.
- Planning, effective organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage a large volume of work in an efficient and timely manner.
- Ability to establish priorities, and ability to work under pressure.
- Teamwork and respect for diversity.
- Good spoken and written communication skills.
- 4 years of experience in Property management and property disposal.
- Practical knowledge of overall logistics and supply chain.
- Proven ability to analyze data.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc).
- A valid driver’s license and proven ability to drive manual-gear 4x4 vehicles.
- Experience in UN Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) UMOJA or SAP-related modules is an advantage.
- Experience in a large international organization is an advantage.
