Opportunity description

UNV offers an online volunteer opportunity for a period of 10 weeks. It is looking for 1 volunteer who has experience in research to conduct research through the review of scientific publications, grey literature, and press clippings/reports published during the period 2020-2022 to estimate fuel smuggling outside Lebanon, and consequently, deduce diesel oil used in the country for this period. Accordingly, the volunteer will prepare a report presenting the methodology, summarizing the findings from the references used, and conclude with results and findings. This will support the Climate Change team in updating the GHG emission inventory from the energy sector for the period 2020-2020.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Conduct intensive research to estimate diesel use in Lebanon in 2020-2022 through desk review.
  • Collect information on quantities of fuel smuggled in 2020-2022.
  • Analyze collected data and draw conclusions on quantities of diesel oil used during this period.
  • Prepare a report in English summarizing the methodology and findings.
  • The average estimated workload is expected to include 10-15 documents over the course of the entire duration. They include scientific publications, grey literature, and press clippings/reports.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • A degree in Environmental science or health or any related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Critical thinking and ability to work 11 - 15 hours per week.
  • Background knowledge and working experience in Middle East, Lebanon, and environmental science.
  • Native speakers or working level of Arabic and English.
  • French, Level: Fair.
