Takween Arab Reader Award 2021

Takween Library and the American University in Kuwait is offering a reading competition in reviewing books that aims to celebrate and encourage reading in Arab societies and enhance some of the most important factors such as understanding, analysis and criticism.

Objectives:

• Encouraging reading process and highlighting the most prominent people in this field.
• Improving mental skills that develop reading, such as linking, analysis, critical and creative thinking.
• Developing the participant's ability to express his thoughts and debate the ideas of others.

Time Line:

• 15 June to 15 July: competition start and application deadline.
• 15 June to 31 July: Evaluation starts on June 15, and filter all entries within 45 days.
• 15 August to 15 September: The jury begins its work by evaluating entries, monitoring points, coordination, discussion, and choosing the winners.
• 30 September to 30 October: Announcing the results.

• 1st place: 500 Kuwaiti dinars and an annual subscription to Takween library, worth 120 dinars, (or a voucher worth 120 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 2nd place: 300 Kuwaiti dinars and an annual subscription to Takween library of 120 dinars, (or a voucher worth 120 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 3rd place: 200 Kuwaiti dinars and an annual subscription Takween library of 120 dinars, (or a voucher worth 120 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 4th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 5th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 6th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 7th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 8th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 9th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).
• 10th place: a semi-annual subscription to Takween library of 60 dinars, (or a voucher worth 60 dinars for residents outside the Gulf States).

• Applicants should send a book review of no less than 500 words and not more than 800 words, including the most important ideas in the book, their opinion on it, and the reason for choosing this book.
• Reviews must be written in Standard Arabic and free from grammatical errors.
• The citation from the book shall not exceed 5% of the total of the review.
• The submitted review must be written by the participant himself, and any post that appears to be taken from another source will be deleted.
• The participant should not have published the review in any newspaper, magazine or website before sending it.
• The review should be sent before the deadline.
• The Award Jury have the right to dispose of the materials received, such as publishing them in a book or in social networking applications, or others.

About Takween Arab Reader Award:

It is an award offered by Takween Library sponsored by the American University in Kuwait. It concerns in reviewing books and aims to celebrate reading in Arab societies and advance most important faculties such as understanding, analysis and criticism.
